Schoolkids celebrate their community on Out of Home

The latest project from oOh!media New Zealand, 'Art in the Hood', encouraged students to get in touch with their creative side and create an artwork which reflected their much-loved neighbourhoods. Across oOh!media's 'unmissable' network, the winning drawings are now appearing in the public domain across New Zealand.

In Auckland and surrounds, Wellington and Christchurch, 21 schools participated in the 'Art in the Hood' competition. Ten finalists were selected alongside the winner of the competition, 12-year-old Noa, for her drawing of Auckland’s CBD. Her artwork, along with the four best artworks from each school are now on show for the community, dispalyed on the bus shelters nearest to their schools.

The initiative can also be seen on Wellington's Urban Art foundation sites, an exhibition space with which oOh!media previously partnered, to produce the exhibition ‘In Isolation’ during April of 2020. Showcasing work produced by local artists while in lockdown, the exhibit ran across 200 oOh!media street furniture sites, and was the largest public art exhibition of its kind in New Zealand.

Now, the 'Art in the Hood' project showcases young talent, inspiring an appreciation for both creating and observing art as we continue to celebrate our local community spaces in 2021.
