Telethon makes it big in the Big Apple on DOOH.

Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, the Out of Home (OOH) industry has remained at the forefront of the crisis thanking essential workers, posting messages of kindness, as well as working with the government to inform the public on how to stay safe.

The latest execution was in May when Clear Channel Outdoor partnered with IHeartMedia and Robin Hood which is New York’s largest poverty-fighting organisation for a virtual star-studded telethon promoted across 13 billboards in New York City’s Times Square to raise money to support COVID-19 victims. The one-hour special, simulcast across multiple stations included live performances of NYC based superstars including Bily Joel, Mariah Carey and Bon Jovi.

The telethon was broadcast on 13 May on News Channel 12, nationally on CNBC, on iHeartMedia Radio stations nationwide, on the iHeartRadio app and on Entercom and SiriusXM radio stations. The performances were broadcast across the multiple screens in NYC’s Times Square, at one point while Mariah Carey performed on one screen her backup singers and pianist performed on another. The benefit raised awareness and funds to help New Yorkers whose lives have been dramatically impacted by COVID-19.

A multitude of OOH operators supported the telethon with their digital signs, including Barclays, Branded cities, New Tradition, Outfront and Silvercast, donating premium media space.   The OOH dynamic promo was produced by Alex Coletti Productions and appeared in Times Square simultaneously to the TV broadcast.
