‘Sport is Calling’ on QMS Media’s digital network

Sport is as much a part of Australian culture as vegemite, and with the start of the season put on hold, fans and players were chomping at the bit for the return. And what better place to step out than on Out of Home?

With the Sport is Calling campaign, leading sport retailer rebel encouraged footy fans to celebrate every minute leading up to the big moment when the siren sounds, the ball goes up and footy is officially back. Utilising QMS digital billboards, a minute-by-minute countdown to the return of the opening bounce was broadcast prior to the opening contest at the MCG.

The campaign concept was created by The Monkeys, rebel’s new lead creative agency. Taking advantage of the timing of this historic occasion rebel cemented itself in consumers’ minds.

“For AFL and sport fans in general to go without footy for almost three months has been tough," says rebel General Manager Customer and Marketing, Jennifer Gulliver.

"But for a business like ours that is built on sports and fandom, we just had to be a part of this momentous occasion and wanted to make sure Aussie footy fans across the country were counting down just like we are."

QMS Media Chief Marketing Officer Sara Lappage says, “Speed, flexibility and dynamic capability are keys in delivering clever and memorable digital out-of-home  (DOOH) campaigns.”

rebel’s ‘Sport is Calling’ campaign counted down to the AFL’s COVID-19 return game against Richmond and Collingwood using DOOH, in-stadium signage, online, TV and in-store media.
